Called the
“Niagara of the South”, this popular tour destination, with its
thundering falls and its mysterious
moonbow, adds a touch of wonder. The 125 foot wide falls drops 68 feet
into the Cumberland River and under a full moon, shows the only "moonbow"
in the Western Hemisphere. It is dramatic day or night.
The park's
attractions include nature trails, fishing, recreation area, swimming,
white water rafting, horseback trail rides, picnicking and
playgrounds.
Park attractions: The Bob Blair Museum, located in the lodge,
features Native
American artifacts and exhibits relating to area plants, animals, and
history. The Gift Shop features a
large selection of Kentucky handcrafts. The gift and coffee shop are
both located in the falls area.
Nature Trails:
Cumberland Falls is a hiker's paradise, with 20 miles of hiking trails
that wind through the Park to scenic areas. The Moonbow Trail connects
with many backpacking trails in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Fishing: Enjoy
fishing in the Cumberland River where there is an abundance of bass,
catfish, panfish, and roughfish.
Recreation areas:
Enjoy tennis, horseshoes or shuffleboard on the outdoor courts near
the Woodland Rooms. Overnight guests may checkout sports equipment.
Swimming: Cool off
on a hot summer day with a dip in an Olympic-size pool. Open Memorial
- Labor Day. Non-guest fee.
White Water Rafting:
Guided rafting trips are offered on the Cumberland River. Open daily,
May - October depending on water levels. (606) 679-6026
Horse Stables:
Guided horseback trail rides are available daily. Open Memorial -
Labor Day. Fee.
The park's facilities
include the historic Dupont Lodge with 52 full amenity rooms.
Built of massive hemlock beams and
knotty
pine,
it offers a spectacular view of the
Cumberland River valley. Adjacent to the lodge are the Woodland Rooms
which are duplex rooms featuring daily maid service, wet bars and
small refrigerators. One and two-bedrooms
cottages offer unique appeal. They are equipped with tableware and
cooking utensils. Fresh linens are provided daily. All have
fireplaces.
Camping: You can
enjoy the great outdoors at one of 50 campsites with electric and
water hookups. The campground has a central service building with
showers and rest rooms, a grocery and a dump station. Seasonal, April
I-October 31.
Cumberland Falls State
Resort Park is located approximately 20 miles from Corbin Travel U.S.
25 W south to Ky. 90. Follow the signs on U.S. 25 W, the direction to
the park is clearly marked.
